salamat sa Manila Bulletin!
kasali sa kanilang newsmakers of 2012 si Gloc-9!
Disciple of Rap
Gloc-9 broke every stereotype about rap artists. He wears no bling nor fancy jackets; there is neither air nor arrogance about him. His humble beginnings and rags to riches story have likewise made him all the more endearing.
Growing up, he took on odd jobs to help the family – from waitering at various fast food chains, to shouting out jeepney routes as a barker.
Today, the 34-year-old rapper has released his sixth album “Mga Kwento ng Makata” under Universal Records. Amid success, Gloc-9 fulfilled his promise to his parents to finish his studies. He graduated with a BS Nursing degree from STI.
Gloc-9 is equally acclaimed by critics and loved by the masses, and that is a status hard to reach by most musicians. But fame and fortune notwithstanding, he seems to have a pretty good head on his shoulders, recognizing that he owes the space he is filling now to his idol and good friend Francis Magalona, who took him in not as a protege but as foster son.
